A dad has left his family shocked after revealing what he plans to wear to his daughter's wedding.

In most Western weddings, only the bride should wear white. So, when the father of one bride-to-be announced he would be donning a white suit for his daughter's nuptials, it understandably caused a family feud – and his justification only added fuel to the fire.

The bride's sister took to Reddit to share the family drama, revealing her dad had "point blank" stated he would be wearing the suit to walk his daughter down the aisle.

When challenged on the decision, he offered a bizarre explanation. He claimed he has the "right to dress however I please" as the father of the bride.

In a bid to salvage her sister's wedding from potential disaster, the man's other daughter attempted to explain that traditionally, it's "solely" the bride who wears white. However, this did little to deter the defiant dad who then piled on more excuses.

White traditionally symbolises purity and innocence on the big day, but the dad said since his daughter already has children, she "shouldn't be wearing white anyhow".

The woman explained: "When I gently told him that typically (read: 9 times out of 10) solely the bride wears white for the wedding day, he doubled down and said that my sister already has kids and shouldn't be wearing white anyhow. Sigh ... This is gonna be an interesting wedding."

Internet users were quick to dive into the debate pointing out that by his own logic, having kids himself means he is also disqualified from wearing white. One user wrote: "Um, your dad has kids too, so .."

However, others argued that it actually wouldn't matter if he wore white. One commenter said: "Nobody will care if he wears white, I don't know if he is walking your sister down the aisle, it could be quite sweet. Let him wear white, nobody looks at men."

A second added: "I don't think he'll be confused for the bride. How does your sister feel? Her and her spouse are the only opinions that matter."
