Daddy Long Legs With 99 Million Year Old Erection Discovered After Dying During Sex

A daddy long legs that lived in prehistoric times died while mating with a female - leaving it with an erection that has lasted 99 million years.

The ancient bug was discovered inside amber after getting trapped inside resin which preserved its body - including his penis.

The fossil, that was found in Burma, showed that the Halitherses grimaldii could extend the organ to nearly half its entire body length.

However, experts believe the erection may have been triggered when it was dying as no female was found next to it.

Jason Dunlop, from the Berlin Museum for Natural History, told National Geographic: “It might be the case that the animal was struggling as it was trapped in the tree resin and that this caused the blood pressure to shoot up and the penis to become squeezed out accidentally.”

Intricate 3D scans of the fossils showed the penis shape was different to those from other species, meaning this particular daddy long legs is unique - and part of a new and extinct family of dyspnoid harvestmen, according to The Science of Nature.

The science of Jurassic Park saw dinosaurs created from their blood found in mosquitoes that fed on them and died in resin.

Presumably scientists won’t want to bring this particular daddy long legs back as all the others will be jealous.
