Dad's six-word excuse for controversial wedding outfit leaves daughter furious

Wedding etiquette can be a minefield, with each couple having their own set of rules and expectations for their big day. From dress codes to guest lists, every wedding is unique and generally, the wishes of the bride and groom should be respected.

However, there's one universal rule that applies to most Western weddings - only the bride should wear white. So when a father-of-the-bride announced his intention to break this tradition, it understandably caused a family feud.

The man's other daughter took to Reddit to share the story. She explained her dad had "point blank" stated he would be wearing a "white suit" to walk his daughter down the aisle.

When questioned about his unconventional choice, the father defended his decision. He argued as the father of the bride, he has the "right to dress however I please".

In an attempt to salvage the situation and prevent her sister's wedding from turning into a disaster, the Reddit user tried to explain that traditionally, it is "solely" the bride who wears white. However, her father remained unmoved, even going as far as to criticise the tradition of the white wedding dress, reports the Mirror.

White, often seen as a symbol of purity and virtue, has traditionally been the colour of choice for brides to represent their chastity. The bride's sister shared the awkward situation online: "When I gently told him that typically (read: 9 times out of 10) solely the bride wears white for the wedding day, he doubled down and said that my sister already has kids and shouldn't be wearing white anyhow. Sigh ... This is gonna be an interesting wedding."

Social media users were quick to highlight the irony in the father's stance, with one pointing out: "Um, your dad has kids too, so .."

Yet, some netizens argued the father's attire wouldn't cause any confusion at the wedding. One commenter suggested: "Nobody will care if he wears white, I don't know if he is walking your sister down the aisle, it could be quite sweet. Let him wear white, nobody looks at men."

Another chimed in: "I don't think he'll be confused for the bride. How does your sister feel? Her and her spouse are the only opinions that matter."
