Dancing On Ice hopefuls Connor Ball and Kye Whyte have both been given their marching orders in a double elimination.

The Vamps star Ball said he’d had the “best time ever” as he was cut from the ITV competition following Sunday night’s semi-final.

BMX racer Whyte said he had loved the experience and joked: “I am doing TV again one day!”

The pair ended up in the bottom three alongside Pussycat Dolls star Kimberly Wyatt after a show that saw them skating alone for the first time as well as in their usual pairs.

All fought hard for their place in the final and Phillip Schofield – who was presenting alone because Holly Willoughby has tested positive for the coronavirus – asked judges Ashley Banjo, Oti Mabuse, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean: “How on Earth do you judge this?”

Diversity star Banjo said it was “so hard” to choose because all three contestants were so strong.

“What a skate off!” he said. “Wow! All of you did such an incredible job.”

Former Strictly star Mabuse agreed that this year’s competition was “so so tough”.

“All of you deserve to be in the final," she said.

However, the panel were unanimous in their decision to send Ball and Whyte home and save Wyatt.

The singer has impressed the panel and viewers throughout the contest and earlier on Sunday earned 40/40 for her pairs skate, and came top in the solo skate.

She joins former Strictly pro Brendan Cole and dancer Regan Gascoigne in the final.

It was expected to be on 20 March but it has been delayed by a week because of football airing on ITV. The finale will now take place on Sunday, 27 March.
