Dancing With the Stars’ Alyson Hannigan Teases HIMYM Easter Egg Ahead of Tuesday’s Show
A legendary piece of How I Met Your Mother iconography is poised to make an appearance during Tuesday’s Dancing With the Stars.
Just a few short hours ahead of air, HIMYM alum Alyson Hannigan took to Instagram to tease her latest dance routine, which incorporates a yellow umbrella not unlike the one that once belonged to Cristin Milioti’s Tracy McConnell.

“If you know you know,” she captioned a set of rehearsal photos, along with an umbrella emoji and two yellow hearts. “So excited to dance for you all tonight!!”
Within minutes, former costar Josh Radnor (aka Ted Mosby) commented on Hannigan’s post, writing: “I know!” UPDATE: You can now watch the full performance above.
During Tuesday’s episode (ABC, 8/7c), the 10 remaining couples — including Hannigan and dance pro Sasha Farber — will perform dances inspired by a pivotal year in their lives. In a subsequent post, Hannigan revealed her dance will be in honor of the year she married husband (and fellow Buffy the Vampire Slayer vet) Alexis Denisof:
Hannigan starred as Lily Aldrin on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother, which ran for nine seasons between 2005 and 2014. In that time, she and Denisof welcomed two daughters into the world: Satyana, born in 2009, and Keeva, born in 2012.
Denisof, who appeared opposite Hannigan on Buffy (before going on to star on the spinoff Angel), also recurred on HIMYM as chauvinistic newsman Sandy Rivers — a role he reprised on the short-lived Hulu sequel series How I Met Your Father.
Hannigan previously received support from another HIMYM castmate, Cobie Smulders. You can see their IG exchange here.
Tuesday’s DWTS will also feature a tribute to the late Len Goodman and the return of several former dance pros — but not Cheryl Burke.
