Dane Bowers Spared Jail After Assaulting Ex-Fiancee Sophia Cahill

Dane Bowers has been spared jail for assaulting his ex-fiancée Sophia Cahill in January.

In September, a court heard that the singer had hit the beauty queen in the face during a ‘sustained attack’ at his parents’ house.

Sophia, a former Miss Wales, claimed that Dane, 35, had grabbed her by the throat and shoulders, pulled her hair and threw her out of the bedroom before hitting her in the face, leaving her with a bloodied nose.

The court heard that the assault happened in January after Sophia asked him why he had glitter on his face. The two had split and were living separately in his parents’ home.

The Another Level singer denied a charge of assault by beating, but he was convicted at Croydon Magistrates’ Court in September.

Today, at Croydon Magistrates’ Court, District Judge Andrew Street sentenced Dane to 20 weeks’ imprisonment suspended for 18 months.

He said: “Miss Cahill had to attend court and relive the events of the 29th of January.

“A further aggravating feature in addition to the pushing and falling to the ground was that you struck Miss Cahill in the face. This was a sustained assault over some period of time.

“There were clearly difficulties in the relationship but you have difficulties controlling your anger.

“This offence passes the custody threshold. I’m going to suspend that imprisonment because the impact of imprisonment would be considerable.

“There would be the impact on your reputation and no doubt that would last for a period of time.”

District Judge Andrew Street had previously said he was ‘not ruling out the possibility of a prison sentence’ for Dane.

According to The Mirror, he said: “I am satisfied that he assaulted her in the manner she described.

“It was a sustained assault, causing her injuries, that took place in the presence of her two children.”
