Danielle Brooks Has 'Full-Circle' Moment on Oscars 2024 Carpet Running Into Former Costars Laverne Cox and Cynthia Erivo
From 'The Color Purple' to 'Orange Is the New Black', 2024 Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks was surrounded by industry friends to cheer her on
Danielle Brooks is in good company at the 2024 Oscars.
On Sunday night, The Color Purple actress ran into her friend and former Broadway costar Cynthia Erivo on the red carpet.
“The Color Purple reunion right here on the carpet, from Broadway to the Oscars,” E! News red carpet host Laverne Cox said.
“And then Laverne,” Brooks, 34, added. “It’s such a full circle moment.”
This is far from the first time that the three have come together in celebration of the powerful musical. When Brooks and Erivo, 37, appeared in the Broadway show together, Cox, 51, visited them behind the scenes.
“I saw them on Broadway three times in The Color Purple,” she said.
Brooks and Cox are also former costars who both appeared in Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. “My career started with being in Orange Is the New Black with you,” Brooks told Cox. “Then, I ended up being in The Color Purple with you on stage,” she gestured to Erivo.
The Instant Dream Home host also added a cheeky nod to Erivo’s green dress — a foreshadowing of her upcoming role as Elphaba in the movie version of Wicked.
“And The Color Purple, we at the Oscars today,” she concluded.
“We started from the bottom, now we truly are here. It can happen,” Brooks said.

A look back at Cox’s social media shows one of the moments she saw her friends on stage, alongside a photo of them at the time.
“There just aren't words to express how amazing these two women @daniebb3 and @cynthiaerivo are in @bwaycolorpurple,” Cox wrote in a 2015 Facebook post, alongside a photo of the three. “This play is so important and these performances are a glorious revelation. I feel so blessed to have gotten to see this show tonight. Just wow! Merry Christmas. ‘I'm beautiful and I'm here’.”
