It turns out we probably should have been calling Danny Dyer something different all along.

On an edition of the EastEnders actor and telly hardman's podcast with his daughter Dani — reported via The Sun — he revealed that a blunder on his birth certificate led to his official name being "Danial".

"[My dad] agreed to the name Daniel but he spelt it Danial," said Dyer.

"Could have been a mix of things, could have been that he was battered, could have been that he doesn't spell. Could have been a bit of both actually."

Dyer made the comments during a discussion with Dani about the unusual name she gave to her son, who is called Santiago.

Dani gave birth to her son with then-boyfriend Sammy Kimmence in January.

The 44-year-old grandfather described Santiago as a "mad name" and suggested he wasn't keen on it when he first found out.

"I love Santiago though, I love his name. A lot of people don’t like it, but that doesn’t really bother me," said Dani.

The older Dyer added: “I love his name now. At first, I was a bit unsure."

In a previous edition of the podcast, which is called Sorted With the Dyers, Dani said she didn't understand why people sought to be friends with their ex-partners.

She said: "It's very different when you have children. You're tied together by blood and you're always going to have a relationship there, which is different, but still there's a line."
