Who is Danny Jones? The Masked Singer winner’s wife and work outside McFly
Everything else there is to know about the McFly star who was unmasked as Piranha.
Danny Jones has just been crowned the winner of The Masked Singer 2024. In a series which has featured singing legend Dionne Warwick, along with Tiffany and Lemar, McFly guitarist Jones made it to the final and left friends and family shocked when he was unmasked as winner Piranha.
While familiar to fans of pop rock boyband McFly Jones perhaps lives a little less in the spotlight than his bandmates such as Tom Fletcher and Harry Judd. So for those who don't know so much about him, here's a quick rundown on who is Danny Jones.
Jones appeared on This Morning to discuss his victory and admitted he was delighted to have demonstrated his singing skills outside of the McFly fanbase. He said: "I'm not good with these compliments. It feels amazing. I really felt the impact of this show. I reached an audience that isn't a typical McFly fan. The reach of this show is unbelievable. I'm so happy I got to do it. The McFly fans know what we can do."
Jones wowed the panel and audience with big ballads, including It's All Coming Back To Me Now by Celine Dion and Believe by Cher.
He said: "There was a bit of pressure on me obviously being in a band and being a singer. I think that's why I pushed myself singing songs nobody's ever heard me sing." Jones revealed he even rehearsed his songs in a weighted vest so that he was prepared to perform in the heavy costume.
McBusted
Jones, 37, sings lead vocals and plays lead guitar in the chart-topping boyband McFly, whose hits include 5 Colours In Here Hair, Obviously and All About You. Jones met bandmate Tom Fletcher at a boyband audition, which he turned up to with a guitar, having misunderstood what kind of skills producers were looking for, and almost running away. Fletcher recalled: "It was really funny. Everyone else was doing stretches and stuff and he was just sitting there with a guitar."
The pair bonded and started writing songs together, before forming McFly with bassist Dougie Poynter and drummer Harry Judd. Fletcher had started out writing songs for similar pop rock boyband Busted after failing the audition, and in 2013 they teamed up to form supergroup McBusted with Matt Willis and James Bourne, touring the UK and Ireland. McFly toured with their most recent album Power To Play.
Famous wife
Jones, who grew up in Bolton, is married for former Miss England winner Georgia Horsley. She won the crown in 2007. Jones announced his engagement to the model and beauty queen in 2013. They married in Malton, North Yorkshire, where Georgia's family are from, in 2014. Their son Cooper was born in January 2018.
Jones has shared an adorable video on social media of six-year-old Cooper learning that he was the voice behind the Piranha mask as the family watched the show at home together.
His son jumps onto his lap and hugs him shouting: "It's you! It's you!"
Jones said on This Morning: "It was amazing, I have to thank my wife for that, she set up that camera, I would have completely missed that. What an amazing moment."
TV judge
Jones has inside experience of being on a TV singing contest, having been a judge on seven seasons of The Voice Kids. He even coached winner Sam Wilkinson in 2019. He has also been a panelist on music quiz show Never Mind The Buzzcocks and comedy quiz show Celebrity Juice.
Cook
It seems Jones' creative skills are not just limited to music. In 2022 he took part in Celebrity MasterChef and impressed with his cooking skills and tasty recipes - making it as far as the final, where he lost out to TV presenter Lisa Snowden.
Hey DJ
As well as being a talented singer and guitarist, Jones works behind the scenes in music production, and has toured England as a DJ, playing his remixes for live audiences. He has worked with DJ Roger Sanchez and produced a track for boyband One Direction on their second album Take Me Home. Jones wrote Don't Forget Where You Belong for 1D's third album Midnight Memories.
