Dara O Briain Reveals The Apprentice Bored Him So Much He Quit - EXCLUSIVE

Dara O Briain has insisted that he doesn’t miss The Apprentice: You’re Fired and had grown bored of the presenting gig that has now been handed over to comedian Jack Dee.

Speaking exclusively to Yahoo Celebrity ahead of the release of his Crowd Tickler Live DVD, the comic, who isn’t even watching the current series, says that he has no regrets about his decision to quit the hit show that he ‘begrudges’ for prompting him to cut his stand-up tour short last year.

He even admitted that it’s a struggle to remember all the contestants that he interviewed during his time fronting the hit spin-off.

“Mainly, I got bored of talking to the candidates all the time. I mean, they’re grand, they’re fine, but I’d had enough. 84 candidates, 84 of them I interviewed – that’s enough candidates!” Dara said.

On his five years presenting duties on You’re Fired, the Irish stand up said that after a while – the show just got a bit repetitive.

“It’s grand, but it can be a bit same-y. I tuned in once, and it was just another 16 people in navy suits all shouting over each other and you say to yourself, ‘Oh I am glad I’m not doing this anymore’,” he said.

The 43-year-old says he felt he had to choose between presenting and stand-up and in the end he knew which one was right for him.

“I’m on tour, so I’m not watching. I couldn’t do both – I’d already sacrificed some dates for last year and didn’t want to miss any more.

“People love the narrative of I’m returning to stand up but it’s not like that.

“I’ve done six tours of this length, it’s not like I ever stopped touring because of The Apprentice – but I still begrudged them for those 12 dates I didn’t get,” he explained.

However, he’s certain that Jack Dee is the right man to fill his shoes even if some opinions might suggest he’s getting off to a slow start.

“I’m a big fan of Jack Dee and Romish. I like them both, and they are both very, very good at what they do.

“People are very quick to cut down something when it’s just starting – people love the race to declare something is sh*t – but the first few episodes of You’re Fired were always tough.

“It’s basically a 30-minute chat show with someone that all people know about is that they didn’t sell fish at 2 am as well as someone else. It’s not until the big beasts get knocked out and it becomes interesting so give it some leeway!”

Well, we’ll definitely be tuning in but we can’t say it’s the same without Dara.

Crowd Tickler Live will be available as a digital download from November 9 and on DVD from November 23
