Nearly two years after its closure, a pub on the fringes of Dartmoor is still seeking new proprietors. Formerly run by managers Jason and Lisa from April 2021, the Bay Horse in Ashburton has been vacant since July 30, 2022 following the pair's exit and pub company Admiral Tavern's decision to sell the venue.

A week ahead of closing, Jason and Lisa informed patrons that Admiral Taverns had decided to put The Bay Horse up for sale via a Facebook post: "As we count down to our last day here due to the unfortunate public sale of The Bay Horse, there's no time for sadness, only laughter so here goes with the final activities."

On their ultimate day of operation, they expressed their gratitude: "What a fantastic time we've had here in the past 18 months and fell so loved by all your comments and good wishes but we still have one last hurrah tonight."

They concluded, signaling Jack and The Rogues' musical involvement as a fitting curtain close: "With Jack and The Rogues seeing the night out with some great tunes, we need help to drink all the beer wine and spirits so come along, have a great tome and say goodbye (for now)."

Following the departure of Jason and Lisa, the pub was boarded up and 'for sale' signs began to appear. Commercial property agents Sidney Phillips are marketing the freehold for £235,000, which includes the bars, a terraced garden, and a three-bedroom flat.

The Admiral Taverns website also advertises the property, stating a guide price and investment for potential buyers of £275,000 plus VAT. The advertisement describes the pub as having low level seating, an open fire, and exposed brickwork, giving it a "quirky and welcoming feel."

It reads: "The Bay Horse Inn is a spacious pub situated in the densely populated town of Ashburton in Newton Abbot. Newton Abbot is a sought after market town which benefits with access to both the coast and moors of Devon. Situated just off the main high street, the pub benefits from both visitors and the local community."

"The pub is a one room operation, with low level seating, open fire and exposed brick work that has a quirky and welcoming feel. The toilets are situated to the rear of the pub that leads onto a small patio beer garden."

"There is a wooded area the rear of the property that is currently unused and can be identified from the title plan or online satellite images."
