David Beckham joined Sir David Attenborough in good spirits as he arrived in the royal box on Centre Court on the first day of Wimbledon.

The 49-year-old former footballer, who has a home in Great Tew near Chipping Norton, dressed in a beige jacket and brown tie and was in attendance with his mother Sandra.

He shared a laugh with Sir Attenborough as the 98-year-old broadcaster and naturalist smiled broadly and arrived, wearing a navy blue jacket and patterned tie, with his daughter Susan.

She subsequently beat world number 98 Mexican Renata Zarazua in straight sets on Centre Court, who replaced Alexandrova.

Meanwhile, Andy Murray has withdrawn from the Wimbledon singles. He will focus on the doubles alongside his brother Jamie instead.

This comes as the 37-year-old had a cyst close to his spinal cord removed over the weekend.
