David Beckham considers Say You'll Be There to be his favourite Spice Girls song, and that's because it evokes a particular memory about his relationship with Victoria Beckham.

The 48-year-old former footballer told pal James Corden on his This Life of Mine interview show that the music video for the group's second number one single marked a big moment for him.

Beckham said: "It's my favourite because it was the song that was on the TV when I was sat in my room with Gary Neville and it came on the telly and that was when I turned around to Gary and said: 'I'm gonna marry that one in the short, black dress'."

Say You'll Be There was released in September 1996 as the second Spice Girls single and, by early 1997, the Beckhams had begun dating. Two years later, the couple got married.

Beckham revealed on the show that the initial attraction he felt to the girl band star was a huge part of his connection with Victoria when they first met.

"I didn't know what she was like as a person," he confessed. "I just actually fancied her like most people did at that time, and I didn't know who I was marrying [or] who I was going to be with for the rest of my life.

"I didn't realise what a strong woman she was, and that is what really attracted me to her more than anything."

The Beckhams lifted the lid on their home life last year with the four-part documentary series Beckham on Netflix. During the doc, Gary Neville said Beckham was "like an addict" in his determination to spend as much time with Victoria as possible.

Fans got a deeper look at the couple's life and the doc even gave us one of the best TV moments of 2023 when Beckham quizzed his wife about the fact she claimed to be working class despite being driven to school in a Rolls-Royce.

All four episodes of Beckham are still available on Netflix now.
