David and Victoria Beckham's anniversary plans and why marriage has lasted
Why the Beckhams' marriage has stood the test of time
David Beckham and Victoria kicked off their silver wedding anniversary early this week in Sardinia. They celebrate the big day on 4 July, also the day of the general election in the UK.
It was love at first sight when they met at a Manchester United football match in 1997. They were married in a lavish ceremony at 15th-century Luttrellstown Castle, outside of Dublin, in 1999, just a few months after their first son Brooklyn was born.
Fast forward 25 years, the Beckhams remain one of the most talked about celebrity couples in the UK. Their marriage has stood the test of time in the showbiz circles. Whether it's birthday bashes or wedding anniversaries, the Beckhams always have an incredible way to celebrate the occasion.
The Beckhams' wedding anniversary celebrations
It is no surprise the couple chose a yacht off the coast of Sardinia to start off their 25th wedding anniversary. Sardinia has a special place in their hearts and it is one of their favourite holiday destinations.

As they celebrated in Italy this weekend, they were joined by their son Romeo who has shared pictures from their holiday on social media. It's not known if their three other children Brooklyn, Cruz, and Harper, joined them on the sun-soaked break. For the Beckhams, it is always a family affair as they have made their children their priority during their marriage.
It's not the first time the Beckhams have headed to Italy around their wedding anniversary. Shortly after their wedding anniversary in July 2022, the Beckhams whisked their children away for a similar yacht break off the coast of Sardinia.
Plus, the Beckhams love to holiday on a yacht and have enjoyed a few yacht holidays this year so far. This year at Easter, the whole Beckham brood and Brooklyn's wife Nicola Peltz Beckham celebrated the occasion on a yacht together. Victoria Beckham also celebrated her 50th birthday in April on a yacht with their family and celebrity friends.
Ahead of the big day on 4 July though, Beckham was seen chatting to Sir David Attenborough at Wimbledon on the first day of the tennis tournament.
How they marked the day
David and Victoria Beckham rewore their purple wedding ensemble ahead of their 25th wedding anniversary.
The former England footballer and Spice Girl married on July 4 1999 in Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland, wearing matching ivory outfits to say I do, before an outfit change for the reception.
“Look what we found,” the couple wrote on a joint Instagram post, referencing David’s head-to-toe purple satin suit with matching shoes and Victoria’s purple gown complete with an asymmetrical floral sash and silver heels with straps up to her knee.
In the nostalgic post, the couple appeared to pose on the same crushed-velvet purple thrones that featured on their wedding day – which inserted itself into pop culture history.
Secrets to Beckham's 25-year marriage
25 years is a big milestone for the Beckhams. The Beckhams invited the cameras into their home for new Netflix series Beckham which looked at the former footballer's star-studded career as well as his family life. In May, Beckham reflected the Netflix show made them reflect on their marriage and everything they have achieved together.
This year Beckham said on the Smartless podcast with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett: "After watching the documentary, after everything was over and we watched it finally, that’s the one thing that we looked at each other and was like, ‘I don’t know how we got through the last 27 years, but we did and we have an amazing family, we have amazing businesses and we’re happy.'"
In April, Victoria Beckham lifted the lid on the secrets to their marriage being a success. She told Spain's ELLE magazine: "My husband is an inspiration to me. Do we look like the couple seen in the Netflix documentary? Yes. We like to have fun, chat, dance, drink. And laugh at each other. That's what it takes to be happy. I believe a lot in laughter, family and friendship. I realise that we have become a model. People like to see relationships that last."
Additionally, she revealed the one rule they do have in their marriage. She explained: "We have a rule of equality, whether in taking care of the house or children."
