David Cassidy's prognosis is 'up in the air' as son confirms star is 'very sick'

David Cassidy’s son, Beau, has broken his silence since his father was hospitalised with organ failure, confirming in a Facebook post that the 67-year-old singer is “very sick”.

The star was rushed to hospital with liver failure four days ago and was initially put in a medically induced coma for treatment.

However, David’s rep has since confirmed that he urgently needs a liver transplant.

Taking to his dad’s official Facebook page, Beau Cassidy updated concerned fans, warning them: “Unfortunately David is very sick. However he is getting the support he needs, surrounded by the people he loves most.

“Thank you very much for your love and concern that you have expressed in your messages to him.”

A source added to Us Weekly: “He is hoping and waiting for a liver transplant. If he happens to get one in time the prognosis is up in the air.

“He was in an induced coma but as of right now is conscious. He is on pain medication to keep him comfortable. He is in and out of consciousness.”

David’s publicist previously released a statement confirming the star’s condition, saying at the time: “He is currently conscious surrounded by family.

“I don’t know what his condition is technically but he is quite ill.

“Nothing is imminent and we are taking it day by day.”

Earlier this year, David revealed that he has dementia – with the star forced to open up after fans grew concerned when he forgot his lyrics during a show.

Revealing that his grandfather and mother had both suffered from the disease, the 67 year old told People magazine at the time: “I was in denial, but a part of me always knew this was coming.

“I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I’ve been without any distractions. I want to love. I want to enjoy life.”

David previously spoke out on his alcohol battle too, telling Piers Morgan in 2014: “If I take another drink, I’m going to die, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. I’m dead.”

David’s actress daughter, Katie Cassidy, is among the star’s family at his hospital bedside, with Katie leaving a fan event for her TV show ‘Arrow’ to be with her dad.

Arrow’s producer, Norman D. Golden II tweeted and deleted: “Katie Cassidy just left a Heroes Villains Fan Fest in Atlanta after the news of her dad David Cassidy’s condition.

“She still took pics with fans beforehand and now her privacy should be respected. Stay strong KC.”
