David de Gea leads Rangers applause for Jack Butland as Man Utd legend brings bromance back to life

Man United legend David de Gea led the plaudits for Jack Butland as the Rangers keeper celebrated an award-winning evening.

Keeper Butland was named Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year at the club's annual awards last night after a stunning breakthrough season as Ibrox No.1. It could have been a problem position for Gers following Allan McGregor's retirement but Butland's signing proved to be one of the best acts of Michael Beale's tenure, and after a clean sweep on Sunday night, he's also in contention for the PFA award which will be presented on May 5.

Butland celebrated his two wins on social media and his comments section was filled with the Rangers allies you'd expect, like Todd Cantwell, Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande. But fans scrolling through the Instagram love-in were left double-taking when a certain Spanish legend popped up with a message of his own. De Gea was among those congratulating Butland on his memorable double.

Butland wrote: "Special night last night celebrating all the men's and women's awards winners together! Thank you to the lads and the fans for the votes and amazing support, it's been an incredible season so far but we've still so much to push for." And De Gea joined the party in the replies with a flame and celebrating hands emojis.

De Gea and Butland were pals at United last season as Butland was drafted in on loan from Crystal Palace to provide backup for the legendary number one. They left on different paths in the summer, with De Gea taking his time to find a new club while Butland has thrown himself right back into it at Rangers. But it seems there's still plenty of love in the air between the two shotstoppers.
