From David's dead to escaping housemates, the best Celebrity Big Brother moments so far

After what feels like an eternity (six years is a long time folks) Celebrity Big Brother is finally returning to our TV screens tonight with a relaunch on ITV1. The house has had a celeb makeover, hosts AJ and Will are ready in their iconic looks, all that's left now is to add some celebrities to the mix. But will this year's cast of celebs (so far rumoured to include Sharon Osborne and Fern Britton) become part of the Celebrity Big Brother hall of fame and produce some truly dramatic moments?

Since it began in 2001, and now more than 200 celebs have entered the house, Celebrity Big Brother has created some truly iconic moments of reality TV. Before the new series kicks off we're taking a walk down memory lane to reminisce on some of the best moments in CBB history.

The best Celebrity Big Brother moments

Jackie Stallone's entrance - 2005

Jackie Stallone, aka the mother of Sylvester Stallone, made one of the most memorable entrances into the Celebrity Big Brother in 2005.

She arrived late in the series and she walked in to the shocked face of her former daughter-in-law Brigitte Nielsen, who said, "Oh my god Jackie!" and Jackie simply replied, "yeah Jackie."

Chantelle pretending to be a singer - 2006

Chantelle Houghton is a CBB icon, who entered the fourth series of the show as a non-celebrity, and had to convince her fellow housemates she was in fact a member of a girl band.

While her singing may not have been up to scratch, she'll go down in the show's history for her time on the show, where she ended up getting into a relationship with fellow contestant Preston, and the two got married shortly after the show.

Leo Sayer escapes the show - 2007

Over the years we've seen many celebrities quit or be removed from the show, but Leo Sayer took things one thing further when he tried to escape from the CBB house.

The 70's popstar appeared on the show in 2007, and after finding out the producers would not provide him with more clean underwear, he decided to take matters into his own hands and leave, armed with a broom.

Dermot O'Leary, who hosted Big Brother's Little Brother, the show's spin-off series at the time, revealed Sayer attempted to get the police involved only they weren't really the police.

In 2019 Dermot said, "Leo walked out and refused to speak to anyone on the team and said he was only going to speak to the police. And at the time The Bill was on, so all their police cars, that weren't real police cars, were outside lined-up outside. And he subsequently got in what he thought was a police car, but actually was just a car from The Bill."

"And then he sat there and said, 'I'm not talking to you, I'm talking to the police'," he said. "And then the exec [producer] said, 'Leo, that's not a real police car'."

Jedward getting a vajazzle from Amy Childs - 2011

In a rather peculiar moment in the 2011 series, Jedward found themselves receiving a custom vajazzle from TOWIE's Amy Childs. It was a moment no one is finding themselves racing back to watch, and yet we couldn't stop talking about it.

David's dead - 2016

Of course you knew this was coming. In perhaps the best moment of Celebrity Big Brother of all time (and reality TV history), a major misunderstanding captured the nation.

Following the death of David Bowie, producers summoned housemate and David's former ex-wife, Angie Bowie, to the diary room to inform her of the sad news. When she departed the diary room and told housemate Tiffany Pollard the news, Tiffany misunderstood Angie, and thought she meant their housemate David Gest, who had been ill earlier that day, had passed away.

What followed was absolute carnage as the rumour spread like wildfire through the house but thankfully David Gest was fine and sleeping in his bed.

The moment will go down in history mainly for Tiffany's understandably shocked reaction and will continue to be memed, most likely, until the end of time.

Gemma Collins' entire time on the show - 2016

Ah Gemma. From her 'I'm claustrophobic Darren', to not participating in group challenges, to opting for a blow dry over her housemates getting hot water in 2016, Gemma will go down in CBB's history as one of its most memorable figures.

Kim Woodburn being escorted out by security - 2017

Kim Woodburn entered the Celebrity Big Brother house late in 2017 and yet still managed to be one of the most memorable parts of the series.

During one episode she ended up getting into an argument with fellow housemate and footballer Jamie O’Hara, repeatedly calling him an "adulterer". Things got so tense security had to come into the house and remove her.

Despite this Kim made it all the way to the final and placed third.

Anne Widdecombe's hair straighteners - 2018

Look, sometimes it's just really difficult to get your hair to do what you want it to do. Anne Widdecombe knew this all too well when she attempted to straighten her hair in the 2018 series. The clip of her repeatedly failing to grasp her hair in the straighteners went viral instantly.

Courtney Act winning the show - 2018

Let's end this on a high, arguably one of the best moments in Celebrity Big Brother history was the arrival and eventual win of drag performer Courtney Act. They entered the series in 2018 where they lost their skirt on the walk in.

Throughout the series they were hilarious, warm and incredibly patient when discussing gender issues with the rest of the house. By the end of the season Courtney had won the nation's hearts and was crowned the rightful winner of the series.
