Dead to Me fans spot Anchorman reference in Netflix series

Fans have spotted what appears to be an Anchorman reference in the new Netflix series Dead to Me.

The show features Anchorman star Christina Applegate in the role of Jen Harding, a woman on the hunt for the man who killed her husband in a hit-and-run incident.

During episode eight, Jen visits the home of a man called Andrew Peters (Rick Holmes), where she notices some wooden art that’s on display. ”Made that myself,” Andrew says. “It’s mahogany.”

Reddit users think the moment is a nod to Anchorman‘s Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) and his line: “I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.”

Ferrell and Anchorman director Adam McKay both serve as executive producers on the show.

Although no one who works on the show itself has confirmed the line is a reference, Netflix’s US Twitter account brought up the similarity.

“Anchorman writers Will Ferrell & Adam McKay are producers on Dead To Me and I really appreciate their commitment to stories where braggadocios men with moustaches tell Christina Applegate about mahogany,” the tweet reads.
