Death on Carlton Bank sparks multi-hander 999 response

A woman has sadly died after collapsing on the Cleveland Way.

A large emergency response, including Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team, attended Carlton Bank on Saturday afternoon, May 18. Yorkshire Ambulance Service, North Yorkshire Police and the air ambulance had all attended.

Sadly, the casualty was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mountain Rescue Team transported the body off the moors to the waiting ambulance service paramedics.

The full statement from Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team said: "We were called out this afternoon (Saturday, May 18) by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust to assist them with a report of a collapsed person near to Carlton Bank. An air ambulance had also been called and attended.

"Upon the arrival of our Team members, North Yorkshire Police were also in attendance, and we were advised that very sadly the casualty had been pronounced dead. Subsequently we transported the deceased person off the Moors, down to the roadside and into the care of the ambulance service. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased. Twelve Team members were involved for approximately 2.5-hours."

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "Police were contacted at 1.07pm on Saturday, May 18, 2024 in relation to a woman who had collapsed on the Cleveland Way near the village of Carlton. Sadly, the woman has since died. We don’t believe that there are any suspicious circumstances."

A spokesperson for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We received an emergency call just before 1.00pm on Saturday afternoon (May 18) to report a person who had collapsed at Carlton Bank. Two ambulances, a team leader, an air ambulance and Mountain Rescue colleagues responded to the incident, but sadly the person was deceased at the scene. Our thoughts are with their family and friends."
