The producers of Death in Paradise have released a teaser picture of the actor starring as the murder mystery show's next Detective Inspector.

The photograph, posted on the show’s Twitter account, shows a man sat on a hammock and gazing out at the picturesque sea in Guadeloupe, a French-Caribbean island.

The coveted role has previously been held Ben Miller, Kris Marshall and Ardal O'Hanlon.

Last week, O’Halon announced he would be leaving the role after joining the cast in 2017.

Fans have been guessing who the new replacement might be – with answers ranging from Bodyguard’s Richard Madden to Ralph Little.

Since launching in 2011, Death in Paradise has become one of TV's most-watched dramas with series eight pulling in an average of more than seven million consolidated viewers.

The show is due to return to BBC One next year.
