Death Stranding 2 trailer confirms full title, release window and villain
PlayStation has released a new trailer for Hideo Kojima's hugely awaited Death Stranding 2, confirming a release window and an official subtitle: On the Beach.
We haven't heard much about the sequel to the legendary Metal Gear Solid creator's post-apocalyptic courier title since late 2022, but the January 31 State of Play livestream gave us a meaty trailer.
The footage showcases Lea Seydoux's Fragile walking Norman Reedus's Sam through the previously showcased ship before sending him on a mission. Sometimes, the characters are rendered in grayscale, and there's also a strange sentient puppet who animates at a low frame rate.
We've also got a patient on an operating table with octopus-esque suckers on their arm, a fetus that spits out a flying robot drone, a guitar being wielded as a weapon and, of course, a samurai mech.
Kojima certainly isn't dialling down his trademark weirdness as he gets older, is he?
In terms of things that make a bit more sense, the villainous Higgs (played by Troy Baker) is back, dressed up somewhere between a member of Kiss and Heath Ledger's Joker, and seeking his revenge.

We also got to see some gameplay, which takes the treacherous delivery service gameplay of the original and combines it with all the hazards you'd expect from the new frozen landscapes in which the sequel is set.
It was also confirmed that Death Stranding 2 won't be released until 2025 — but once production is wrapped, Kojima will return to the world of espionage action for another new IP called PHYSINT.
Between these two PlayStation titles, the Death Stranding movie, Overdose for Xbox and the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, Kojima fans have plenty to look forward to.
