The Department for Transport has finally addressed rumours regarding the requirement for UK vehicles to be equipped with 'mandatory' speed limiters starting from next month.

From July 7, all new cars sold at UK dealerships are expected to come with 'mandatory' speed limiters as part of an EU directive.

The EU's General Safety Rule (GSR) has introduced new regulations on Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA), which dictate the essential safety features for vehicles and trailers.

A spokesperson for the Department for Transport clarified the situation to BirminghamLive, stating: "We are constantly carrying out research into how transport users across all modes can benefit from the latest technology, ensuring journeys are safe, reliable, and cut emissions.

"The Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) laws coming into effect in July apply to the EU and Northern Ireland only, not Great Britain."
