Dermot O'Leary: 'Cheryl is returning to X Factor'

From Digital Spy

Cheryl looks set to return to The X Factor panel, nearly three years after her previous stint as a judge.

The former Girls Aloud star last appeared on the show as a judge in 2015, though made a guest appearance last year as she helped out Simon Cowell in Judges' Houses.

However, host Dermot O'Leary seemingly confirmed that Cheryl is set to return full time, telling Metro: "Cheryl's going to come back."

Digital Spy has reached out to ITV and Cheryl's representatives for comment.

Dermot went on to say that if it wasn't her, he would love to see a certain other massive popstar take to the judging panel.

"If it wasn't Cheryl, I would love Mariah [Carey]," he revealed. "It would be a whole new world of crazy, my friend!"

"If you think Simon turns up late…" Dermot added, alluding to Simon's diva-ish antics.

In a separate interview, the presenter suggested that The X Factor could run for another decade, despite falling ratings.

"As long as the talent keeps coming, yeah," he told Radio Times. "And the talent keeps showing up."

He added: "I was really annoyed with some of the people this year, cos I was like, 'Why didn't you audition last year?'

"When I first started, people would turn up and say, 'Tell me who you want me to be'. Now you get people going, 'Here's my first album, here's my YouTube channel', and the show's become a facilitator for that, and that's a good thing."

The X Factor is due to return later this year on ITV.
