Dermot O'Leary has announced he will be hosting a brand new show coming to ITV, with the This Morning presenter at the ready to dig his suitcase out for a new adventure in his homeland.

The TV presenter will be heading back to his Irish roots for the latest new travel show, Dermot's Taste of Ireland, which will air on ITV1. The programme will see Dermot go on a food tour around the country as he takes a bite out of their finest delicacies.

"From traditional Irish stew to soda bread, fresh seafood, and boxty potato pancakes - Dermot will taste his way across the island, meeting the chefs and locals that champion and celebrate Ireland’s gastronomic heritage," ITV teased, reports OK!.

"Having opened two of his own fish-themed restaurants and sharing some of his favourite home recipes on ITV’s This Morning, he is now taking his passion on the road whilst exploring Ireland’s ancient landscapes, diverse cities and stunning coastlines."

Dermot, who has landed a series of presenting gigs such as The X Factor, Soccer Aid, Children in Need and This Morning, says the show will demonstrate his "two great loves" with Ireland and his passion for food.

Having previously appeared on an episode of Remarkable Places to Eat, Dermot also previously co-owned two Fishy Fishy restaurants, which both closed its doors. The Poole branch closed in 2013 and the Brighton restaurant closed in 2016.

Well equipped with the knowledge for the job, Dermot will be digging out his suitcase as he pays a visit to the Michelin Star restaurants of Kinsale, oysters by the sea in Cork, comfort food in Wexford and Dublin's buzzing culinary scene.

The new show will also take a pit stop at Northern Ireland to try Belfast's food offerings and promises to be a "foodie delight, full of surprises".

Discussing the new ITV show, Dermot said: "The food scene in Ireland is so exciting and to meet the people and try the produce will be a real treat." He added: "It's exciting to see modern Ireland through second generation eyes - and to show that Ireland's food is more than cabbage and stews... although all their cabbage and stews are also great!'"

Dermot currently hosts This Morning alongside co-host Alison Hammond on Thursday and Friday mornings. The programme caused a stir earlier this month when Jimmy Carr was blasted for 'rudely' interrupting chef Clodagh McKenna during her cooking segment.

Clodagh demonstrated to viewers three ways to cook roast chicken, as the comedian repeatedly kept interrupting her and critiquing her food. "What? Have you not got a bin?," Jimmy quipped whilst also stating "Just wait until she finds out about stock cubes."

Jimmy continued to interrupt throughout the segment, with Dermot later putting a comforting arm around Clodagh as she politely attempted to brush off the remarks.

Fans took to social media following the show, to slam Jimmy's behaviour, with one viewer writing: "Urgh. Jimmy Carr next. Switching off as he is obnoxious and proved it by having no respect to Clodah's segment."
