Derren Brown fans convinced his live Channel 4 special played a mind trick on the entire nation

Derren Brown marked 20 years of controlling people's minds tonight (August 16) with a live behind-the-scenes special for Channel 4 – and viewers are convinced that he used the occasion to play a trick on the entire nation.

Early on in the Channel 4 show, viewers soon started complaining of satellite "interference" during one of the pre-recorded segments, but many suspected it was all part of the programme.

During a live part of the show, Derren actually addressed the technical difficulties and blamed it on the rainy weather in London, where the special was being filmed.

Things then got even more suspicious as random adverts began to pop up, before Derren plucked a viewer right from their home and stuffed them in a taxi.

"Anyone else watching the #DerrenBrown programme on C4 having interference on the picture? Knowing what he's like, I'm not sure if I've got a bad signal or if he's messing with us already," tweeted one viewer.

Another wrote: "#DerrenBrown saying it’s “sattelite interference” because of the rain. WE KNOW YOU’RE PLAYING WITH OUR MINDS SOMEHOW DERREN."

"Is the programme meant to have interference or is that just my tv?!! Anything can happen!! #derrenbrown" added another.

The random adverts appeared to feature the colour red and the word 'nail' on numerous occasions, leading others to believe this was also part of some sort of mind trick.

"I’m living for the fake adverts in this #DerrenBrown special. All the red featured and the repetition of the word nail, the “dodgy interference” I see you," tweeted one observant viewer.

Check out more of the reactions below.

We'll just have to wait and see if we've all been irreversibly hypnotised to paint our nails red.

Derren Brown: 20 Years of Mind Control aired on Channel 4.
