Details announced for this year's World Gravy Wrestling Championships

One of the world’s craziest tournaments is set to return to Rossendale this summer.

Hundreds will gather at the Rose ‘n Bowl, Stacksteads, on Monday, August 26, to watch competitors in the World Gravy Wrestling Championships.

The aim during each bout is to defeat your opponent in a two-minute-long wrestling match in the gravy. Points are scored for fancy dress, comedy effect, and entertainment value.

In previous years hopefuls have jetted in from all over the globe to compete in this legendary contest which is now in its 16th year.

This year contestants are coming from far and wide to challenge the reigning champions from 2023; Patina Bury who wrestled as ‘The Bacup Bavarian’ and Nathan Kendall aka ‘Ravin Gravy’, both newcomers that won the coveted title for the first time.

The championships aim to raise money for charity and also sees face painting, tombolas, bouncy castles and food and drink served all day.

Entry is £3 per adult and £2 per child with all proceeds going to East Lancashire Hospice.

Participants can also raise funds for their own chosen charities, whilst grappling in the gravy.
