Yahoo News Developer hands over cheque to Herefordshire lifeline
A DEVELOPER has made a donation to a Herefordshire charity supporting homeless people after it was nominated by locals.
The Living Room has been awarded £1,000 from Taylor Wimpey South Wales as the winners of the homebuilder’s Community Chest competition.
Running throughout April 2024, the competition is part of the organisation’s ongoing efforts to engage communities local to its Elgar Place development in Hereford.
Locals were invited to nominate worthy recipients for the prize, and after receiving over 200 entries, the Taylor Wimpey team picked The Living Room as its winner.
The Living Room is a café, community larder and communal space which provides a safe place for anyone, right in the centre of Hereford. Founded in 2020, this grassroots organisation has developed organically, by responding to the needs of the community and helping people impacted by homelessness in the region.

In 2023, The Living Room delivered 2,387 free hot meals to homeless individuals, ensuring they have access to nutritious food. It also extended its support to 1,172 Ukrainian refugees, offering them much-needed stability and resources during challenging times.
Mel Groves of The Living Room said: “We are over the moon to have received such a wonderful prize from Taylor Wimpey, and it’s particularly special that the local community put us forward as deserving of funds. The money will be put to great use in improving the facilities and support we can offer people in need throughout Hereford.”
