DeWanda Wise Terrorized by Sinister Stuffed Bear in ‘Imaginary’ Trailer

DeWanda Wise plays a mother terrorized by a sinister stuffed toy bear that looks to possess her youngest stepdaughter in the trailer for the horror thriller Imaginary from Blumhouse Productions and Lionsgate that dropped on Thursday.

Wise’s Jessica moves back into her childhood home with her family, only to have her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develop an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that begin playful, only to become increasingly sinister.

As Alice’s behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes and realizes Chauncey is much more than the furry toy she believed him to be. The trailer reveals Alice’s eerily lifelike stuffed bear is an “imaginary friend” from her own childhood she long ago left behind while growing up and is now unhappy she abandoned him.

“You were always playing with your imaginary friend. Then the connection was severed. And the entity becomes enraged,” Jessica is told at one point. Imaginary, directed by Jeff Wadlow pre-strike, is set for a March 8, 2024 release.

The ensemble cast includes Tom Payne, Taegen Burns, Veronica Falcon and Betty Buckley. Wise will also star in the supernatural thriller Killing Faith. She recently appeared in the blockbuster Jurassic Park: Dominion and The Harder They Fall, directed by Jeymes Samuel.

Wadlow directed Imaginary from a script he co-wrote with Greg Erb and Jason Oremland. Wadlow and Jason Blum produced the thriller, with Wise executive producing alongside Ryan Turek.
