Chelsea star hopes Romelu Lukaku return to Stamford Bridge

Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea: What we know so far

Diego Costa has said he "hopes" Everton striker Romelu Lukaku signs for Chelsea as the Spain international admitted he could leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Costa revealed after Chelsea's FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal on Saturday that he will only consider leaving the Blues for a move back to Atletico Madrid because of his desire to make Spain's squad for next year's World Cup.

Standard Sport reported earlier this month that Lukaku has become Antonio Conte's first-choice striker target for the summer as the Italian coach looks to strengthen his attacking options ahead of Chelsea's return to the Champions League next season.

And when Costa was asked about Lukaku - who ended the season with five more Premier League goals (25) than himself (20) - the former admitted he would be delighted to see the Everton star back at Stamford Bridge.

When asked about Lukaku re-signing for Chelsea, Costa said: "I do not know - that’s a decision for the club.

"Of course Lukaku is a very big player who played an impressive season. I hope he can sign at Chelsea because it’s a unique club."

Costa added: "[Michy] Batshuayi may stay because he’s young and I could be leaving."
