Following the news Arne Slot will become the new manager of Liverpool, many supporters are already questioning who else from Feyenoord could be joining the Dutchman at Anfield next season.

It was confirmed on Friday night an agreement had been found between Slot's current employers and the Reds for the 45-year-old to replace Jurgen Klopp this summer.

As is often the case with new managers, they are keen to recruit players already known to them as they begin to put their stamp on their new side. It remains to be seen as to whether or not Slot goes down this path, in the same way Erik ten Hag did when bringing Antony and Lisandro Martinez from Ajax to Manchester United.

One Feyenoord player who famously thrived at Liverpool was none other than Dirk Kuyt, who coached a selection of Slot's squad during his time as manager of club's under-19s between 2018 and 2020.

Kuyt told the ECHO in April 2023 there were two players in particular he would like to see at Liverpool, one of which was Orkun Kokcu. The Turkish midfielder was subsequently snapped up by Benfica, though Kuyt's second recommendation remains at Feyenoord.

The individual in question is Lutsharel Geertruida, vice-captain at he club, who is capable of playing across the backline. Still only 23 years of age, this could represent a shrewd piece of business for Slot this summer.

“I am a Feyenoord man and they are doing very well at the moment,” Kuyt said during an interview with the ECHO last year. "They have a very good manager in Arne Slot and some of the younger guys like Orkun Kokcu and Lutsharel Geertruida are knocking on the door and playing very well. It won’t take long for the interest of top European teams to be there for them. I hope Liverpool is interested in Feyenoord players, and I am an example it can work!

“When I was working as under-19s coach, Kokcu and Geertruida were in my team at the time. At Ajax you now have the likes of Jurrien Timber and Kenneth Taylor, who we were playing against. You know who the talented players are and you can see they are going to have big futures. Gakpo was a great talent and everyone knew from watching him at youth level that he would one day play for a club like Liverpool.”

Geertruida is out of contract in the summer of 2025, having last signed an extension in 2021. That the defender has only one year remaining on his deal could well work to Liverpool's advantage, should they decide to make a move.
