The streaming platform, which is the home for shows and films from the Marvel and Star Wars universes amongst many other things, will be making its entertainment available to more people through the different tiers with the price differing between each.

Here is everything you need to know about how Disney+ is changing and what the subscription tiers will be.

Option 1: Standard with ads

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Disney+)
Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be released on Disney+ later this year, when the new subscription tiers are in effect (Disney+)

Cost: £4.99 p/m

Standard with ads will become the new cheapest subscription tier on Disney+, so what does this mean?

Viewers will still be able to enjoy all the new originals, the latest blockbuster movies and more on the platform but this time they will have adverts playing intermittently.

At an event about the subscription changes, Luke Bradley Jones, General Manager of Disney+ EMEA, said the new ad-supported tier will have "a lot less [adverts] than you would be used to from a terrestrial service."

Adverts will not play on Junior Mode, or on anything seen as being for younger viewers even if it is being viewed on an adult's profile. Pre-school content will be also be ad-free regardless of which subscription tier the account holder is registered to.

Elemental (Disney/Pixar)
Content seen on Junior Mode, such as Pixar's Elemental, will not have adverts regardless of whether a subscriber is on the Standard with Ads plan (Disney/Pixar)

Deborah Armstrong, Country Manager UK&I, GM Media Networks and Advertising EMEA, added at the event: "If you're a user who is 18+ for the most part, depending on the age rating of the content you're watching, you'll see curated ads."

Adverts will be shown with a countdown timer, which represents the total time, with under 4 minutes of adverts being shown in an hour.

For TV shows this will be shown during the course of the programme while for movies the ad-break will be shown before the film starts, and Disney+ "will only have adverts before" a film not during Jones confirmed.

With this option, subscribers can watch on 2 concurrent streams, but downloads will not be available.

Option 2: Standard

Loki (Disney+)
Loki is one of the Marvel shows available on Disney+, which will continue to have a Standard subscription tier at a cost of £7.99 p/m (Disney+)

Cost: £7.99 p/m, £79.90 p/a

Disney+'s Standard subscription is much like the Standard with ads however viewers will be able to stream content without adverts.

Subscribers on this tier will be able to watch 2 concurrent streams, but a major difference is that viewers can download content on up to 10 devices.

Option 3: Premium

Premium Disney+ subscribers will be able to enjoy 4 concurrent streams and watch shows like The Bear (pictured) with better video and sound quality (FX)

Cost: £10.99 p/m, £109.90 p/a

The most expensive subscription tier being introduced is Premium, which offers subscribers ad-free streaming with video quality available at up to 4k UHD and HDR video.

Other perks of the pricier tier is that subscribers can watch 4 concurrent streams, while Dolby Atmos audio will also be available.

Similarly to the Standard tier, subscribers will be able to download content on up to 10 devices at one time.
