Scotland's national drink has enjoyed a resurgence here in Glasgow over the past decade with fans able to find new distilleries to enjoy alongside some of the world's best whisky bars.

Whisky enjoyers are now spoiled for choice, with everything from the amazing service and selection at the likes of the Bon Accord, Pipers and the Pot Still bars in the city centre to the amazing new Clydeside Distillery and visitor centre built down on the banks of the Clyde.

But should you fancy a wee afternoon trip to a distillery that's surrounded by epic scenery as well as providing a first-class visitor experience, then Dumgoyne should be the next destination on your list.

It's here, at the foot of Dumgoyne, you'll find Glengoyne Distillery, widely considered to be one of the country's most beautiful.

It's also a favourite with tourists and whisky fans, with visitor numbers hitting over 80,000, making it the third most popular to head to in the country.

With no less than six different tours on offer, ranging from the £20 distillery tour and tasting to the 90 minute £100 Malt Master experience where you get to create your own single malt in the Sample Room, there is plenty to see and do.

And did we mention it even has its own wee waterfall that's the perfect backdrop while trying their drams?

Getting there

The X10 bus (destination Balfron) departs from Buchanan Bus Station in the centre of Glasgow and stops at the gates of Glengoyne.

If you do have a designated driver then you can drive there in less than 40 minutes from Glasgow, and most distilleries these days offer driver packs meaning those at the wheel can take theirs home to try.
