Distressing footage shows man throwing rock at seal

A man was filmed hurling stones at a seal on a beach as it struggled to get away.

The clip shows the man throwing a rock at the seal and incessantly approach it before the animal attempts to warn him away. Police are appealing for information to locate the man filmed by a local woman at a beach near the Great Orme in Llandudno.

In the footage, which was posted to YouTube, the woman can be heard shouting down to the beach at the man to leave the seal alone, however he ignores her and continues to approach it.

The video then shows him throwing a stone at the seal, and appearing to taunt it in a bid to try and scare it. The seal is clearly distressed by the man's aggressive behaviour but is struggling to get away, WalesOnline reports.

The seal then responds by clearly trying to warn the man off, but he then throws rocks at it before it swims back into the sea. North Wales Police's rural crime team has posted on social media confirming the force is conducting enquiries into the incident.

In a statement the force said: "A recently uploaded Youtube video features footage of a male approaching a lone grey seal on a beach near the Great Orme in Llandudno. The animal is clearly distressed in the clip, during which the male is seen throwing a rock towards it."
