Djed Spence boost, Troy Parrott fortune after weird red card with Reguilon future questioned
Tottenham might have had the weekend off but some of their loan players did not as they took to the pitches for the final weeks of their seasons.
The 2023/24 campaign is now in its final stretch of games, which means the club's large group of loan players are all looking to end their spells away on a high. Spurs have got players out on loan contracts across England in the Premier League and Football League as well as abroad in countries such as Spain, Turkey, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy.
Eric Dier and Ivan Perisic also went on loan to Bayern Munich and Hajduk Split respectively, the former now through to the Champions League semi-finals and the latter back in action with four substitute appearances following his cruciate ligament injury. Both players have agreed to join those clubs permanently this summer when their contracts at the north London club come to an end.
Here's how all of Spurs' other 12 loan players have got on over the past week:
Troy Parrott (Excelsior Rotterdam)
Troy Parrott was not in action this weekend for Excelsior Rotterdam as he served his suspension after a performance against Volendam the previous weekend that had everything with a goal, assist and a bizarre red card after the final whistle.
Having just returned from injury, the Republic of Ireland international was taken off in the 68th minute after a terrific performance. However, after a little scuffle between some players in the centre of the pitch after the final whistle, the referee went to check his pitchside monitor to work out what happened. He was able to see Parrott walking across the pitch and appear to pull or flick the ear of Volendam player Safouane Karim, who had just been involved in the melee. The Irishman got a straight red card, while Karim received a second yellow card for his part in things.
There was a fear that Excelsior could lose Parrott for up to three matches, a blow when he has provided eight goals and four assists in 22 matches in the Dutch league. However, instead the 22-year-old received a one-game ban with another suspended, which the Rotterdam club agreed to.

"We do not agree with the punishment and believe that a suspension is disproportionate to what Troy has done," Excelsior's technical manager Niels van Duinen is quoted in the Dutch media as saying. "At the same time, the prosecutor leaves little room for interpretation and we consider the chance of a review of the sentence to be nil. That is why we have decided to agree to this punishment with reluctance, because there are more serious offenses that are not punished."
football.london has previously reported that clubs in Serie A, the Bundesliga and the Championship are monitoring his situation at Spurs. The forward has a contract with Spurs until 2025 and there is understood to be an option within it for the club to extend that by another year.
Djed Spence (Genoa)
Djed Spence got plenty of Serie A football under his belt this week. He played the full 90 minutes as a right wing-back for Genoa in their 1-0 home defeat to Lazio on Friday night, after playing half an hour from the bench in Monday's 1-1 draw at Fiorentina.
The 23-year-old right-back has been used on both flanks since arriving in Italy and that versatility has given him the opportunity for more minutes.
On Friday, Genoa had numerous chances to take control of the game in the first half but conceded a 66th minute goal to Luis Alberto, which Spence was not at fault for.
The Spurs man won three aerial duels, had 50 touches of the ball, made one tackle, one interception, one dribble and four clearances in a busy display down the right flank which earned him a rating of 6.71 in Whoscored's stat-based scores, putting him in the top three of the Genoa players on the day.
Spence has so far played in 11 matches in Serie A, getting 574 minutes to his name, which is more than he got across seven appearances at Leeds in the first half of this season and far more than his few Spurs minutes before that.
Sergio Reguilon (Brentford)
Sergio Reguilon continues to catch the eye as a regular starter for Brentford and he grabbed an assist in their dominant 5-1 victory at Luton in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Spaniard played the full 90 minutes in another fine showing and he has now racked up 24 appearances this season across his time at Brentford and previously Manchester United, laying on four assists since joining up with Thomas Frank's men.
With a year left on his contract at Tottenham, Reguilon is not part of Ange Postecoglou's plans but is making his case for a good transfer elsewhere in the summer and could bring a reasonable fee into Spurs. However, the local media around Brentford have suggested that his wages at the north London club, double what the highest earners at his loan side make, will make any potential move there difficult.
Tanguy Ndombele (Galatasaray)
Tanguy Ndombele's disappointing season in Turkey continued as he was an unused substitute in Galatasaray's 4-1 home victory against Pendikspor on Sunday.
The Frenchman has played five minutes of football in April so far and 31 minutes in the Turkish Super Lig since the end of January. In total he has managed 449 minutes of league football and 656 minutes across all competitions in 26 appearances. To put that into context, even Ivan Perisic has played 252 minutes this season, despite missing most of it with that cruciate ligament injury, and with five games to go could end up matching Ndombele if he plays most of them for Hajduk Split.
Alejo Veliz (Sevilla)
Alejo Veliz will be hoping to get back in a matchday squad when Sevilla host Mallorca in La Liga on Monday evening.
The 20-year-old striker has not been making it into some squads in recent months under head coach Quique Sanchez Flores. The young Argentine has played just 23 minutes for Sevilla since joining in the winter transfer window and has not got on the pitch since March 2.
Japhet Tanganga (Millwall)
Japhet Tanganga continues to impress for Millwall and he got his 15th bout of 90 minutes in the past 16 matches in the Championship and picked up a clean sheet to boot.
Millwall made it three wins on the spin under Neil Harris with a 1-0 victory at Sunderland as Tanganga came up against his old Spurs team-mate Jack Clarke. On the day, Tanganga won two aerial duels, made eight clearances, one tackle and two interceptions in an excellent display.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed a terrific loan spell at Millwall so far and has played nearly every minute for the Championship side to put his injury woes of recent seasons behind him.
After a first half to the season with no game time at all at Augsburg, Tanganga has played 16 times for Millwall with 1,372 minutes to his name.
Alfie Devine and Ashley Phillips (Plymouth Argyle)
Ashley Phillips was again an unused substitute as Plymouth lost 3-0 at Stoke City in a big game in the Championship's lower reaches. However, Alfie Devine at least got some minutes for the first time since the opening day of the month as he came on for the second half of the match at the bet365 Stadium.
The 19-year-old received a five in Plymouth Live's player ratings - one of their higher marks in a disappointing team display - for his second half performance, with the review: "Did give Argyle some drive going forward from midfield after his introduction as a half-time substitute. Referee Robert Madley booked him for diving but that seemed harsh because former Argyle loan signing Luke Cundle did appear to grab him before he went down to the ground."
Joe Rodon (Leeds United)
Joe Rodon will be looking for Leeds to get back to winning ways as they sit four points off the top of the Championship table following recent results.
United travel to Middlesbrough on Monday night for a crunch game in the division with just three matches remaining in the regular season.
The 26-year-old Wales defender has played 44 times for Leeds this season as a near ever-present with 3,864 minutes to his name in a busy and mostly successful campaign.
Matthew Craig (Doncaster Rovers)
Another player enjoying an excellent loan spell in the second half of the campaign is Matthew Craig who has played his part in Doncaster Rovers' remarkable form under Grant McCann in League Two.
A 4-2 victory against Barrow on Saturday, having been 2-0 down at half-time, made it nine wins in a row for Rovers in the competition, which has swept them up the table and they are now level on points with seventh-placed Crawley Town, who hold the final play-off spot, yet Doncaster have a game in hand.
Craig played 63 minutes at the weekend in front of former Spurs goalkeeper Thimothee Lo-Lutala, and the 20-year-old midfielder got a six in the player ratings of the Doncaster Free Press with the write-up: "Tidy showing from the midfielder before being one of three players to be subbed off. Nothing against him that he was taken off, more a tactical change."
The Scotland Under-21s international has impressed on loan and has played 16 times in League Two, with one goal and one assist, and has 1,285 minutes to his name.
Josh Keeley (Barnet)
Twenty-year-old goalkeeper Josh Keeley was between the sticks yet again as Barnet won 4-1 at home against Kidderminster in the National League on Saturday.
The Republic of Ireland U21s international will have play-off football to come next month as second-placed Barnet look to win promotion back to the Football League.
Sam Archer (Barton Rovers)
Tottenham Under-18s goalkeeper Sam Archer continues to get plenty of game time during his short-term work experience loan to get first team exposure with Barton Rovers in Southern League Central Division One.
The 17-year-old has enjoyed an excellent time at the non-league side, with plenty of clean sheets, and this weekend brought a 5-2 win at home against a Hadley side that had 10 men from 18 minutes onwards.
