Doctor Who series 14, the first to feature Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor, has officially wrapped filming.

The long-running science-fiction series has been filming in and around Swansea, Bristol, Newport and Cardiff (including the very street this writer lives on) for the last few months, and returning showrunner Russell T Davies has confirmed that production finished this week (July 14).

"That's a wrap," he posted on Instagram, alongside a photo of himself and lots of crew in front of the TARDIS. His picture didn't feature a new look at Millie Gibson's new companion Ruby or Ncuti's Doctor, but the show's official Instagram account did post a glossy snap of the latter in costume, hanging out in historic LGBTQ+ Cardiff pub The Golden Cross.

Series 14 won't be airing until next year, as there's a lot of post-production and visual effects work to make all those Welsh quarries look like alien planets.

Of course, fans are still receiving their thrills this year as we are getting three specials with a returning David Tennant, alongside Catherine Tate and Bernard Cribbins, who filmed just before his death last year.

Meanwhile, the TARDIS has materialised next to London's Tower Bridge, although it's been given a new pink makeover as part of the marketing for the new Barbie movie, which features none other than Ncuti Gatwa as one of the Kens.

Interestingly, main Ken actor Ryan Gosling is a self-professed HUGE Doctor Who fan, recently saying of his love for the show and Barbie co-star: "I am such a big fan of Ncuti's. He's the coolest, and him playing Doctor Who is like the most exciting thing that's happening right now. So, I'm here for it."

Perhaps Ncuti can get him down to Cardiff to film a cameo for series 15?

Doctor Who returns later in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on Max.
