Doctor Who has confirmed four new cast members for this year's upcoming Christmas special and next year's series 14, which will feature the newest incarnation of The Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa.

The latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine has confirmed the casting of Gemma Arrowsmith, Billy Brayshaw, Mary Malone, and Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy.

Appearing in the festive episode later this year, Arrowsmith is an actress and writer known for penning Tracey Ullman’s Show and Modern Life is Goodish and appearing in Upstart Crow and Stath Lets Flats. Malone has appeared in the likes of Vera and The Prince.

Making their Who debuts in next year's series 14, Brayshaw has appeared in Still So Awkward and A Christmas Story Christmas, while Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy is best known for playing Jesse Donovan in Hollyoaks between 2016 and 2020, where he was credited as Luke Jerdy.

"The cast for our end-of-year special is continuing to grow. Though still with some names we haven't announced yet!" Producer Phil Collinson shared.

"But it is a delight to welcome two more names on board, with Gemma Arrowsmith and Mary Malone... and you won't have to wait long to find out how they connect to the Doctor and Ruby Sunday."

It's important to note that the festive special is different to the trio of specials featuring a returning David Tennant and Catherine Tate for the show's 60th anniversary. This special is the first outing for Gatwa's Doctor and the debut of Millie Gibson's Ruby.

Collinson noted: "Coming up after that, in the 2024 series, it's a delight to open the studio doors to a former star of Holloaks with Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy. His character in the 'Oaks, Jesse, died of alcohol poisoning on his wedding day, so let's hope he has a more peaceful time in the Whoniverse. Although I can't promise!

"And, in a separate episode, we're delighted to say hello to Billy Brayshaw. And there are so more names to come!"

Doctor Who returns later in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on Max.
