A doctor has criticised online trolls after she was labelled “too pretty" to work in medicine.

Dr Medina Culver has more than 27,000 followers on Instagram, where she regularly posts about her life as a physician in Las Vegas.

In one recent video, titled "when someone tells me you’re too pretty to be a real doctor’, the thirtysomething doctor replied to the claim via Instagram Reel.

“Well thank you... I am pretty ambitious, pretty hard working and pretty determined to achieve my dreams,” she wrote.

In the caption, Dr Culver added: “Pretty women can be more than pretty faces.... we can also be badass doctors."

While many people praised the medical professional for addressing her critics, others labelled her “conceited”.

“Is this literally all she posts are conceited TikToks of her making cutsie faces at the camera and pointing at her life accomplishments lol,” wrote one person.

However, many people commented that such comments are only ever made with regards to women.

"This is the problem when women are happy and proud of their accomplishments and whatever they had/still have to deal with or overcome, we’re called a whole host of sh**** names!

“We always have to apologise or bring ourselves down if we say something good about ourselves!! Like can’t we just say ya I’m pretty smart!”

Another person commented: “So she is confident and accomplished? What’s wrong with that? Would it be better if she only made posts that were self loathing and negative? Let’s just let people be happy with themselves.”

Dr Culver replied to the praiseworthy remark, writing: “Thank you so much for this. Truly. People forget it’s another person on the end so you saying this really means a lot to me."
