Doctor Who fans have voted and the best episode and Doctor of the New Who era has been revealed thanks to new data.

The BBC sci-fi show was regenerated back in 2003 with Christopher Eccleston taking the role as the Ninth Doctor, and he was succeeded by David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker.

1. David Tennant - 10th Doctor
Appearances: 47 episodes with an average rating of 8.40
According to data, David Tennant is the actor to have played the Doctor who has the highest rated episodes on average with his episodes scoring a total of 8.4.

Tennant has returned to the BBC programme for its 60th anniversary specials, donning his trusty suit and wielding a brand new sonic screwdriver as the Fourteenth Doctor, rather than the Tenth. He will be joined for the three episodes by Catherine Tate, who once again plays Donna Noble opposite him.
It is their series that has been revealed to be the most popular amongst fans, as it has been revealed that the episodes from 2008's series 4 has the highest ratings of all the New Who era. The series has been rated 8.35 out of 10.
2. Matt Smith - Eleventh Doctor
Appearances: 43 episodes with an average rating of 8.15
While Tennant has been named the best Time Lord by fans, Matt Smith comes a close second. The actor portrayed the Eleventh Doctor from 2010 to 2013 and his episodes were given an average rating of 8.15.
During Smith's time in the role his Doctor had three companions, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan), Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill), and later Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman).
Series five, which starred Smith, Gillan and Darvill is the second highest-rated series with an average rating of 8.08 out of 10. This is closely followed by series three, which starred Tennant and Freema Agyeman and was given an average rating of 8.05 out of 10.
3. Christopher Eccleston - Ninth Doctor
Appearances: 13 episodes with an average rating of 7.91
Eccleston's Ninth Doctor came in third place for the best Time Lords, with his episodes getting an average rating of 7.91.

The actor was only in the role for one series before being replaced by Tennant, who has made 47 appearances in the show so far, and will soon make three more.
4. Peter Capaldi - Twelfth Doctor
Appearances: 40 episodes with an average rating of 7.81
Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor came in fourth place with an average rating of 7.81, he appeared in the show from 2014 to 2017 for three series.
The actor's iteration of The Doctor had two companions, first Coleman's Clara and then Bill, who was played by Pearl Mackie.
5. Jodie Whittaker - Thirteenth Doctor
Appearances: 31 episodes with an average rating of 6.23
Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor earned fifth place with her episodes being rated on average 6.23 out of 10. She appeared in the show from 2018 to 2022 and had three series in total in the role.

The actor had a "family" rather than a companion during her seasons, with Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, and Mandip Gill appearing alongside her during her time in the role.
