Ncuti Gatwa has given fans a sneak peek at his character in Steven Spielberg's war series Masters of the Air.

The Doctor Who protagonist plays 2nd Lt Robert Daniels in Apple TV+'s star-studded show, which is set to debut at the end of January.

Co-produced by Spielberg and Tom Hanks, Masters of the Air follows the duo's previous war dramas Band of Brothers and The Pacific, zeroing in on the actions of the 100th Bomb Group of the United States Army Air Forces during World War II.

Ahead of the series debuting on the streamer, Gatwa took to Instagram to share a picture of himself in character, alongside two photos of his co-stars Josiah Cross and Branden Cook.

"New year new me," Gatwa wrote in the caption, adding: "This project has the most insane and talented cast."

The Sex Education star continued: "Sharing this experience with my boys @kingjoe_3 and @ibcookin was proper special. We grew, we learned, we flew."

Also starring Elvis star Austin Butler and Saltburn's Barry Keoghan, Masters of the Air follows the famed American bomber group as they grapple with "frigid conditions, lack of oxygen, and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air".

"Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler's Third Reich, is at the heart of Masters of the Air," the official synopsis continues.

"Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all."

Behind the camera for the show's nine episodes are True Detective's Cary Joji Fukunaga, Captain Marvel's Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Mudbound's Dee Rees and Tim Van Patten (The Wire, The Sopranos, Sex and the City).

The first two episodes of Masters of the Air premieres on Apple TV+ on January 26, with the remaining episodes following weekly.
