Dog saved from house fire by members of the public

A dog has been rescued from a house fire by members of the public in an estate in West Oxfordshire.

No one was in the house fire service has confirmed, but the dog was rescued before firefighters arrived at the Smith Estate in Witney at around 3.30pm today (Thursday, July 4).

Police were also seen at the scene and have been contacted for a comment on the fire which is understood to have started in the kitchen of the the property.

The dog is now "safe and well", according to the fire service which sent two crews from Witney and one from Oxford.

One eyewitness said an ambulance also arrived at the scene at around 5pm, but the fire since added that there were no other injuries from the fire.

Two crews remained damping out the property at around 5.10pm.

A spokesperson said: "The fire was in the kitchen of the property. Nobody was in the property at the time. Two crews are still there damping down."
