Dolly Parton Announces Broadway Musical Based on Her Life with Original Songs and 'All Your Favorites'

"I lived my whole life to see this show on stage," the country legend said

Dolly Parton's story is coming to the Great White Way.

On June 6, the legendary musician, actress, author and philanthropist announced that she will be releasing a new musical on Broadway, titled Hello, I'm Dolly.

Parton, 78, wrote on X, "Hello, I'm Dolly! I've been writing my life story as a Broadway musical for several years and I'm proud to announce we are finally developing 'Hello, I'm Dolly - An Original Musical' for the Broadway stage."

The show, its title pulled from that of the country megastar's first album that debuted back in 1967, will premiere in 2026, and is "a new musical inspired by [Dolly's] life and trailblazing career," according to a press release.

“Hello, I’m Dolly, and I lived my whole life to see this show on stage," Parton said in the release. "I’ve written many original songs for the show and included all your favorites in it as well."

"You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll clap, you’ll stomp, it truly is a Grand Ol’ Opera. Pun and fun intended. Don’t miss it!” she added.

Parton will co-produce alongside Adam Speers for ATG Productions and Danny Nozell for CTK Enterprises.

Said Speers, "I first had the pleasure of working with Dolly Parton in 2019 when she trusted us to develop a new version of her musical 9 to 5 for London’s West End. I had always heard she wanted to do a musical based on her life, so when she asked if I would be interested in producing it, I was bowled over."

"As the world knows, Dolly is a magical blend of talent, hard work, intelligence, charm, wit and a gigantically big heart," he added in a statement. "I’m thrilled we’re going to bring her inspiring story to Broadway.”

With a music career spanning nearly 60 years and a film career more than 40, Parton is the recipient of many accolades, including 11 Grammy Awards. She also has nominations from all three other EGOT categories: the Emmy, Oscar and Tony Awards.

Whether Parton will appear onstage in her newly announced Broadway production remains to be seen, but back in 2021, she told fellow singer Tim McGraw on his Beyond The Influence Radio show that she has always made sure to take roles she could believably see herself in.

"I only take parts that are pretty close to my own personality," Parton said on the show. "I have never yet done one of those scenes that was that far-fetched."

"Even when I did Steel Magnolias, I played a beautician," she continued. "If I hadn't made it in the music business, I would have been a beautician. So I understood that."
