Aerial Footage Shows Dolphin Hunting Down Dinner Off Florida Gulf Coast

Michael McCarthy of See Through Canoe was boating in St. Petersberg, Florida, when he captured drone footage of a dolphin chasing a crevalle jack on March 11.

The drone footage shows the dolphin chasing the fish in circles. The dolphin appeared to have its eye set on that particular fish as it was bigger than the other fish swimming in the vicinity.

McCarthy told Storyful dolphins do not have enough jaw pressure to bite through large prey.

“When a dolphin catches a large fish like this, they have to chew off pieces to eat. They often rub their catch against the bottom to help break off those pieces,” McCarthy told Storyful. Credit: Michael Mccarthy via Storyful
