Dominica's Prime Minister Says Island Suffered Widespread Hurricane Destruction

At least 15 people were dead and 20 missing on the Caribbean island of Dominica following Hurricane Maria, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said on Thursday, September 21.

He said in an interview from Antigua he saw complete devastation following the Category 5 storm. There’s also limited communication, mainly via WhatsApp. Some towns are cut off and can only be accessed by sea or air, he said.

Skerrit’s office released video taken Wednesday, the day after the storm made landfall on the island, which shows the damage in Roseau. Credit: Office of the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica via Storyful
