Donald Trump sparks fury for committing golf's most jaw-dropping faux pas as clip goes viral

Driving your golf buggy across a putting green might not sound like a heinous crime to a non-golfer but anyone who enjoys a casual putt will be aware it is a cardinal sin.

Despite this, President Donald Trump proceeded to drive his buggy across a green to give his partner a putter in Bedminster in New Jersey.

While any decent club would ban their member for doing such a thing, the course is of course owned by the US President himself.

Fellow golfers and members of the public have reacted with absolute horror to the video which has since gone viral.

Sports Illustrated branded the clip the "most Trump thing ever”.

Golf podcast Fore Play chipped in: “Never drive on the green, unless you own the course or are the most powerful man in the world”.

A veteran golfer chimed in to provide some perspective for putting muggles: "For as much time he spends on the course, he should know there are rules in the game of golf and driving on the green is a big no no.”

Another said: "Beyond bad etiquette, played with my 72-year-old mother last week and she almost died when a guy drove up near the fringe, like 10 foot from the green”.

Another critic said: "It speaks to his boorish character and disrespect for others. Yeah it's his course but anyone who ever golfed knows that is a gigantic no no."

In the widely circulated clip, the President, who is donning one of his signature “Make America Great Again” hats, drives to the camera and offers his fist out as a form of greeting.

Mr Trump then says he was playing “good until this hole” and delights in remarking that his Secret Service provides the “best security in the history of golf.”

The Bedminster course, which is one of 17 owned by Trump Golf, is due to host the US Open women's tournament next month.

President Trump, who regularly rebuked Barack Obama for playing too much golf, appears to have drastically outpaced his predecessor. According to the Trump golf count tracker, Mr Trump has been to a golf course 28 times since his inauguration in January. In contrast, by June 12, Mr Obama had played golf five times in his presidency.

The billionaire businessman, who has faced criticism for his penchant for putting since becoming President, has teed off with the likes of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and champion professionals Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods since his election victory last Autumn.
