Douglas Day is set to return for the first time in five years.

The small committee have been working hard to bring the popular event back to Castle Douglas – including the big
parade.

And it will be held on Saturday, July 20 as part of the Civic Week celebrations.

The committee, new for this year, features Emma and Megan McMurtrie-Crawford, Elaine Whitelaw and Bryony Wilson.

And they have been thrilled with the support they have received from the community.

Emma: said: “It’s been absolutely phenomenal, we’ve been taken aback by the generosity of the town – residents and businesses alike.

“It’s been daunting but it’s also been utterly rewarding and we’ve really enjoyed it.

Civic Week will run from July 15 to 21 with fun including a treasure hunt, bingo, fun run, football tournament, pet show and bowling.

Emma added: “It’s local businesses and local residents that are organising so much for us.

“We’ve been astounded by how helpful everyone has been.

“There’s events happening in different places every day, the programme is out and it’s free to pick up.”

Douglas Day itself will be on Saturday, July 20, with the parade starting from Wallets Marts at 1pm before a day of fun at Market Hill.

That will include face painting, Reid’s Amusements, a mindfulness tent, beat the goalie, food and drink and performances from Kirkcudbright and District Pipe Band, Annan Town Band and Jo’s Scottish Dancers.

Local bands Rhelm, Eric Woodhouse, Katie-Mac and Laura Florence will be performing during the day, with The Dangleberries the headliners.
