The Emmy nominee plays a journalist who falls under the spell of a con-artist surgeon in Season 2 of Peacock’s true-crime anthology Dr. Death, which will premiere with all eight episodes on Thursday, Dec. 21, TVLine has learned.

The streamer has also released a teaser trailer for Season 2 — which you can watch above — with Edgar Ramírez (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story) playing shady surgeon Paolo Macchiarini. “The work I do could change the world,” he boasts, but we can tell things will get a lot darker than that, as Moore’s character demands to know: “What’d you do, Paolo? What did you do to them?”

Season 2 tells the true story of Paolo Macchiarini, “a charming surgeon renowned for his innovative operations,” per the official description. “When investigative journalist Benita Alexander,” played by Moore, “approaches him for a story, the line between personal and professional begins to blur, changing her life forever. As she learns how far Paolo will go to protect his secrets, a group of doctors halfway across the world make shocking discoveries of their own that call everything about Paolo into question.”

The Season 2 cast also includes Luke Kirby (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Ashley Madekwe (Salem, Revenge) and Gustaf Hammarsten. Ashley Michel Hoban, a producer on Dr. Death‘s first season, will serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner for the eight-episode sophomore run, which is based on the Wondery podcast of the same name. Season 1, starring Joshua Jackson, Christian Slater and Alec Baldwin, debuted on Peacock in 2021.
