Yahoo News This ‘Drag Race’ Icon Was Just Cast On The New ‘Doctor Who’
The new season of Doctor Who gets queerer by the day and we are living!
Today. showrunner Russell T Davies announced that drag icon Jinkx Monsoon is trading broadway for the TARDIS. “In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again,” Davies shared.
Fresh off her run as Mama Morton in Chicago, Jinkx, who can do anything, is delighted to be taking her talents to the Whoniverse. “I’m honored, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who! Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer — I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage,” Monsoon said.

The series returns this November with three special episodes that coincide with the long-running show’s 60th anniversary and that will bring back David Tennant as the 14th Doctor along with Catherine Tate reprising her role as companion Donna Temple-Noble. The mini-series is followed by Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa taking over the role of the Time Lord.
Neil Patrick Harris, who guest stars in the upcoming season, previously spilled the tea that Gatwa’s version of the Time Lord will be queer. “I got to meet and interact with him a bit and he’s glorious,” Harris told Variety, speaking at the time about Gatwa. “He’ll be the first gay Doctor, which is going to be super cool, a sexier Doctor.”

This is just the latest announcement coming out of the show that reinforces how queer this new era of the series is about to become.
Along with Harris’s casting, previous announcements about the upcoming series have included the news that Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney was joining the cast of the upcoming 60th-anniversary special playing a character named Rose. Yes, Rose, who may or may not be a new version of the beloved companion previously played by Billie Piper. And last week, it was announced that trans actor Pete MacHale would be joining the cast of the new series as a yet unnamed character.
