Dramatic pictures show bizarre aftermath of crash that left Iceland van balanced on top of car

A dramatic three-vehicle collision in Edgbaston, Birmingham, resulted in an Iceland delivery van ending up perched on top of a car. The incident occurred on Priory Road near Bristol Road on the evening of May 14.

Images and video footage from the scene depict the delivery van with its rear wheels resting on the bonnet of a dark-blue Vauxhall Zafira. West Midlands Fire Service was alerted to the situation at 5.54pm and dispatched a crew from Smethwick fire station.

Today, West Midlands Police confirmed that a car driver has been arrested. A spokesman said: "We were called to the junction of Priory Road and Bristol Road in Edgbaston just before 5.50pm yesterday (14 May) following a collision involving a car and a van. No one is believed to have been injured.

"The driver of the car, a man aged 55, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and remains in custody today."

Fortunately, no one was injured or trapped in the vehicles, and all occupants had managed to exit before the arrival of the firefighters. A spokesperson for the service stated: "Our time of call was 5.54pm. Our logs say three vehicles were involved, one that came to rest under a delivery van. There were no persons trapped or injured. Everybody had got out of the cars prior to us getting there. We made the scene safe and placed cordons around it. We left the scene with police awaiting for recovery."

Iceland has been contacted for a comment, reports Birmingham Live.
