A MAN has been arrested after crashing a car into a roundabout and fleeing the scene.

Officers were called to Bath Hill Roundabout at 1.30pm on May 22 after reports of a single vehicle collision.

It was reported that the driver fled from the scene on foot and a man was later detained and arrested nearby.

Recovery of the vehicle is being arranged and the local authority have been notified of damage caused to the roundabout and signs.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We received a report at 1.30pm of a single vehicle collision at the Bath Hill Roundabout in Bournemouth.

“It was reported that the driver had made off from the scene on foot.

“Officers attended and a man was detained nearby and arrested in connection with the incident.

“Enquiries into the matter are ongoing and recovery of the vehicle is being arranged.

“The local authority has also been notified due to damage to the roundabout and signs.”

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "We were called to Bath Road, Bournemouth at 1.38pm today (22 May) after a car ended up on a roundabout.

"A crew from Springbourne attended, no-one was trapped in the vehicle so firefighters made the scene safe and our stop was at 1.50pm."
