Driver ditches car with cannabis inside after Newport police chase

An investigation is underway after a driver ditched their car and ran away from police following a chase on the Isle of Wight last night (Monday, April 22).

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said a Ford Focus failed to stop for police in Newport at around 7.40pm.

The driver is said to have exited the car and Cross Lane, off Staplers, before fleeing the scene.

Officers seized the vehicle and found a large quantity of cannabis inside.

Police enquiries remain ongoing.
